Features
Linguistically, Guarani is known for its agglutinative structure, where words are formed by stringing together multiple affixes to convey meaning, including tense, person, and mood. It uses nasal harmony, a feature where nasality spreads across vowels and consonants within a word. Guarani has a relatively simple phonemic inventory but features contrastive nasalization and a distinctive use of pitch and stress. The language does not use articles and has flexible word order, often influenced by emphasis and discourse context rather than fixed grammatical rules.
Dialects
The Guarani language includes several dialects, with the most prominent being Paraguayan Guarani, which serves as one of Paraguay’s official languages and is widely used in education, media, and government. Other dialects include Western Guarani varieties such as Mbya, Kaiwá (Paĩ Tavyterã), Ñandeva, and Chiriguano (also known as Ava Guarani), spoken primarily in Brazil, Argentina, and Bolivia. These dialects vary in pronunciation, vocabulary, and some grammatical features, and while they share a common linguistic root, mutual intelligibility may be limited between more divergent varieties. Paraguayan Guarani has undergone the most standardization and has incorporated many Spanish loanwords due to the country's bilingual nature.

U.S. Distribution
The Guarani language has a limited but notable presence in the United States, primarily among immigrant communities from Paraguay and, to a lesser extent, from parts of Brazil, Argentina, and Bolivia. These speakers are often concentrated in urban areas with broader Latin American populations, such as New York City, Miami, and Los Angeles. Within these communities, Guarani is typically spoken at home or in cultural settings, while Spanish or English is used for broader communication. Although Guarani is not widely spoken across the U.S., there is occasional demand for interpretation and translation services in legal, immigration, and healthcare contexts involving Paraguayan nationals.
