Features
An inflected (fusional) language with subject-verb-object (SVO) word order. Nouns, pronouns, adjectives, and articles are assigned one of two genders and one of two numbers. Verbs are highly inflected, including three tenses, three moods, three aspects, three voices, and an inflected infinitive. Portuguese has also preserved more verbal inflections from classical Latin than other Romance languages.
Dialects
Continental Portuguese is the primary dialect spoken in Portugal and Portuguese-speaking African countries, and Brazilian Portuguese is the dialect spoken in Brazil. The primary differences between are in accent and vocabulary, as well as a number of grammatical distinctions, most notably the 2nd person singular pronoun.

There are roughly 770,000 speakers of Portuguese in the United States. The majority of Portuguese-speaking immigrants originated in Brazil or Africa, with large concentrations found in Massachusetts, Florida, New Jersey, California, and New York.
